There are a variety of different ways you can get involved with the Humanist Association of Ottawa. Some people just talk with us from afar on the HAO Blog, Twitter, Facebook, etc. Others connect a little deeper by joining our Meetup group, our mailing lists, and occasionally attend a meeting. Then there's those dedicated types that want to: meet other Humanists and Atheists and possibly take a leadership or volunteer role in the group.
Our organization exists to promote Humanism and freethought in the Ottawa area. We want to reach out to as many people as possible and don't like the idea of paid membership being a barrier to involvement in the movement.
Anyone can attend any of our events without being an official member of our group. It also costs absolutely nothing to take part in our online initiatives such as:
These places are actually where the vast majority of the conversation between all members of the group take place. If you are interested in getting involved with us but want to test the water first, then spend a bit of time on the sites mentioned above. Do take the oppourtunity to check out one of our monthly meetings as well; you will really get a feeling of who we are and what we are doing.

Our membership structure is designed to be as affordable as possible, but we offer a way for people to make a deeper contribution to the organization if they are so inclined.
We associate names to the membership levels based on the theme of Darwin's voyage on the Beagle, but do note that the different levels of membership are not associated to any heiarchy within the group. The $20 Tortoise membership is the baseline that most people contribute. Here is a list of our different membership levels:
