The Humanist Association of Ottawa marches annually in the Gay Pride Parade in Ottawa under the banner of Atheist Pride. Our organization has many members from the gay community, and we have consistently taken a strong position in favor of gay rights publicly.
We believe that the majority of bigotry aimed at homosexuals around the world originates from religious teaching. All of the prominent holy books contain verses that demonize gays and lesbians, and even condone criminal acts against people based purely on their sexuality. No matter how deep one's faith might be, we believe that hatred of this type is indefensible.
